The 2021-2022 school year is already off to a great start with the delivery of our new books we ordered at the end of last school year. We have diverse storybooks, interesting non-fiction titles, and the ever popular graphic novels. Ms. Murray and I cannot wait for our students to come check out all these great titles. Library orientation begins this week and will last for two weeks. We are so excited to have our students back in the Birney Media Center to check out books this school year.

We recently got a big book order in and we are so excited! We have the new Dog Man, some new graphic novels, and lots of storybooks. Ms. Murray and I are getting ready for Read Across America week and our Spring Book Fair which will be here at the end of March. We have also been so excited to celebrate Black History Month with our amazing Birney students with an informative Black History display and lessons about influential African-Americans.
It's been a little less than a month since I started as the new media specialist here at Birney Elementary. I am so excited to be here! Ms. Murray and I have been busy sorting the fiction books into categories, called genres, based on the subject matter of the book. We hope this will make it easier for our students to find books that interest them and maybe even some they would not usually consider. For our returning students, things will look a little different. Some things have been moved around but your favorite books are still here! Next week, lessons start and we cannot wait to meet all of our boys and girls and help them discover and nurture their love of reading. Checkout will also begin next week. We also have some new books in so please look on Destiny if you are interested in checking out any of those. I hope everyone has a great weekend! Our storybook high-flyers.....these are books that are asked for frequently so they have been shelved separately so that our students and staff can find them easier.
